hello friends.
i’ve been having the moodiest of days recently and i attribute it to not getting enough sleep. the days are beginning to melt into one another and every day is starting to feel like my personal version of ground hog day. in an attempt to stay consistent with my writing and with this here newsletter, i present to you a weekly round-up of things that i’ve been enjoying lately:
Watching:
The Perfect Couple: I love book-based television and have been meaning to read Elin Hilderbrand for a while now after reading this article about her.
My Lady Jane: great if you’re into regency/period pieces.
The Underground Railroad: period drama set in the 18th century based on the novel of the same title by Colson Whitehead.
Also rewatching the show that made me want to move to New York and tap away at my computer in a rent-controlled apartment sans cigarettes. i feel like almost every writer who wanted to be a writer, especially for print media was at some point inspired by this show. or was that just me?
Reading:
Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss's Glossier: I’m fascinated with branding and marketing and remember when I first got a small sample of Glossier’s You in the mail way before it was as popular as it is now. Definitely needed to start reading this book for insights on the way Weiss was able to build out her brand from a blog to a physical product.
Passiontide by Monique Roffey: I needed to add in a Caribbean book this month to keep up with the new releases and landed on this one that is inspired by a real-life murder that happened during carnival in Trinidad and Tobago. I remember being there at the time and reading about it in the news so was interested in Roffey’s creative take on the incident.
Things I Really Love This Month:
The one water bottle to rule them all- folks really seem to love this one because the price has certainly jumped since I purchased mine earlier this year. I’d choose it everytime though.
Double-cleansing using this cleansing balm and this cleanser. Since turning 40, my skin has been noticeably drier so focusing on hydration has been my number one concern. I also love this serum for an added hydration boost as well as this moiturizer to keep my skin nice and bouncy.

Sunscreen and perfume are two of the things I could never leave home without. I’m going through a musk/skin scent phase and my fragrance wardrobe these days reflect that. Rediscovering and loving Musc Rose Noir by narciso rodriguez paired with Amber Vanilla by the 7 Virtues. I’ve also been wearing Clean Classic Skin a lot.

My current favourite SPF is this one by It Cosmetics and I’m still very much a fan of this one by Kiehl’s.

As we head into the last few months of the year, some of my favourite places to online shop are already dropping their Christmas collections. If you know me then you know that Christmas is my favourite time of year and I tend to get pulled into all of the shopping that goes along with. I will, however, make recommendations based on products I love and things that I think are a great deal.
Add these to your wishlist:
Jo Malone London Ginger Biscuit Cologne
L’Occitance Complete Body Ritual
Supergoop! All Day Glow SPF Set
Kiehl’s Hydration to the Extreme
The Music I’ve been listening to lately:
and because I’m still an island gyal living on a Caribbean island where stripe is not a thing, these posts may never be pay-walled but if you want to (and I’d appreciate it if you do) you can leave me a tip here.
